“Who gave a boon to Mahishasura, the
son of Asura RAMBHA?
Of course! It was none other than
Lord BRAHMA.
Mahishasura was half Asura and
half BUFFALO;
and was really a cruel FELLOW.
Mahishasura defeated all the
Devatas of Swargalok and was really
UNBEATABLE;
all the Gods and Goddesses of
Swargalok started discussing
about Mahishasura as he was
becoming UNBEARABLE.
Lord Brahma told everyone that
the boon
that he gave to Mahishasura has a
LOOPHOLE;
that’s why; all the gods and
goddesses agreed to
unite the feminine power of all
goddesses as a WHOLE.
The divine feminine power
of all goddesses gave rise to Maa
KATYAYANI;
and all Gods and Goddesses gave
something special to Goddess Durga
to make her strong enough to
become MAHISHASURMARDINI.
Mahishasura got killed by a Goddess
and on the day of Mahalaya,
a goddess visits her paternal
house and she is known as MAHADEVPATNI.
This Goddess is so popular among
Bengali people that they celebrate the
Durga Puja festival in a grand
style by regarding her as a divine BANGAJANANI.
The grand festive Bengali month
of ‘Aaswin’ comes after
the uncomfortable and hot Bengali
month of ‘BHAADRA’.
The Mahalaya day starts with ‘MAHISHASHURMARDINI’S
MAHALAYA’ program
where ‘Chandipath’ sounds divine due
to the voice of ‘Birendrakishore BHADRA’.”-Arindam Sain
